Alleged Serial Bank Robber Surrenders

A criminal complaint was filed today against Anthony Wayne Ransom charging him with four bank robberies. Ransom was arrested last night after turning himself in to Reading Police. He was already wanted on a federal arrest warrant for the July 12, 2010, robbery of the Citizens Bank branch located at 2516 Welsh Road, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The criminal complaint filed today additionally charges Ransom with the July 19, 2010, robbery of the PNC Bank branch located at 123 Old York Road in Abington, Pennsylvania; the August 12, 2010, robbery of the FirstTrust Bank branch in the Pavilion at 261 Old York Road in Abington, Pennsylvania; and the August 17, 2010, robbery of the TD Bank branch located at 710 Old York Road in Abington, Pennsylvania.

Ransom was also being sought for escaping from the custody of a federal half-way house in Philadelphia on June 27, 2010. Ransom is being held in federal custody pending a detention hearing. Formal charges will follow.

The case has been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Marshals Service, the Philadelphia Police Department, and Abington Township Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Leo R. Tsao.

An Indictment or Information is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
