Philadelphia Felon Indicted on Drug and Firearm Charges

Today, Alex Ferguson was charged in a two-count indictment with possession of a firearm in Philadelphia after having been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison, and with possession of “crack” cocaine, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger and Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams.

If convicted, the defendant faces a statutory maximum sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment, a $252,500 fine, three years’ supervised release, and $200 special assessment.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative designed to identify and prosecute firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendant is likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction. It was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Whitehead, Jr.
