PHILADELPHIA—Herbert Alex Simpson, 30, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty today to two counts of mailing threatening communications. Simpson mailed threatening letters to New York Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin and a former employer. In those letters, Simpson, pretending to be other people, threatened that Coughlin’s “life would be a living hell by doing something to [his] family.” Simpson also wrote a letter containing a threat to kill his former employer and his family.

Simpson faces a maximum possible sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $500,000 fine, two years of supervised release, and a $200 special assessment when sentenced on February 26, 2010.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Derek A. Cohen.
