Two Philadelphia Residents Charged in Armed Robberies

Defendants My Nguyen and Phuong Le were charged today by indictment on charges that they conspired to rob businesses engaged in interstate commerce, committed an armed robbery of business engaged in interstate commerce, and used and carried a firearm during these crimes, announced United States Attorney Michael L. Levy. The indictment alleges that on August 20, 2009, defendants Nguyen and Le together carried out the armed robberies of Dalia’s Grocery Store and the 7-Eleven store, both in Philadelphia. The indictment further alleges that on the same day, defendant Nguyen, acting alone, carried out a third armed robbery of the La Manzaneza Grocery, also in Philadelphia.

If convicted, defendant My Nguyen faces a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment, including a 60-year mandatory minimum, a $1,750,000 fine, five years of supervised release, and a $700 special assessment, and defendant Phuong Le faces a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment, including a 35-year mandatory minimum, a $1,250,000 fine, five years supervised release, and a $500 special assessment.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Philadelphia Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Leo R. Tsao.
