Philadelphia Man Charged with Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon

United States Attorney Michael L. Levy and Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham today announced the filing of a one-count Indictment charging Chamar Withrow, also known as “Manny,” with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, relating to his June 27, 2008, possession of a Highpoint .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun, serial number obliterated, loaded with nine live rounds of ammunition in the city of Philadelphia.

This investigation and prosecution was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a joint initiative by the United States Attorney’s Office, each of the nine District Attorney’s Offices in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute dangerous firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendants are likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction.
If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment and a mandatory sentence of no less than 15 years’ incarceration.
The case was investigated by FBI Special Agent James Crowley and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Arlene Fisk.
