Nazareth Man Sentenced to 135 Months in Prison for Robbery Spree

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced that a Nazareth man was sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison today by U.S. District Court Judge Richard P. Conaboy for committing robberies in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia during a crime spree between September 2007, and March 2008.

Carlson stated that John Snuggs, age 42, previously admitted to robbing numerous mini marts, gas stations, and banks of more than $58,000.

Snuggs was indicted by federal grand juries in the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the Eastern District of Virginia, and was charged separately in Criminal Informations filed in the Middle District of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey, as a result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Pennsylvania State Police, local police in Monroe County, and federal and state law enforcement from Philadelphia, New Jersey and Virginia.

Carlson stated that Snuggs previously admitted to robbing the following: the Wawa Market on Rt. 209, Broadheadsville, Pennsylvania (three times); the Pocono Community Bank , Rt. 209, Broadheadsville, Pennsylvania; Monarch Bank in Virginia Beach, Virginia; the PNC Bank on Sullivan Trail in Nazareth, Pennsylvania; the East Penn Bank on Bath Pike in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; the Lafayette Ambassador Bank on Northampton St. in Easton, Pennsylvania; the Baker Federal Credit Union in Phillipsburg, New Jersey; the Exxon Gas Station at 5879 Sullivan Trail in Nazareth, Pennsylvania; the Turkey Hill Mini Mart at 73 N. Broadway in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania; the Shell Gas Station at 249 S. Broadway in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania; the A-Plus Mini Mart at 868 Nazareth Pike in Nazareth, Pennsylvania; the Turkey Hill Mini Mart at 434 E. Main St in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania; and the G&J Fill and Chill at 2911 Old Nazareth Road in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Judge Conaboy also ordered that Snuggs be placed on supervised release for five years after serving his prison sentence, pay more than $58,000 in restitution, and pay a special assessment of $1,500.

Carlson noted that Assistant United States Attorney Francis P. Sempa prosecuted the case.
