Luzerne County Deputy Director of Forensic Programs Pleads Guilty

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Janice Fedaryck, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation; and Leslie DeMarco, Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation Division, jointly announced today that a guilty plea has been entered as part of an on-going probe of corruption allegations in the Luzerne County Courthouse.

Sandra Brulo, age 56, of Ashley, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court before United States District Court Senior Judge Edwin M. Kosik to a Criminal Information charging obstruction of justice after she corruptly altered a juvenile court file with the intent to impair the file’s integrity. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Brulo has agreed to truthfully cooperate with this on-going investigation into alleged courthouse corruption.

Mr. Carlson noted that this guilty plea is the latest development in an on-going public corruption probe. According to Mr. Carlson, Brulo is the fourth person to plead guilty in the past two months in connection with this on-going probe of misconduct at the Luzerne County Courthouse.

This investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and by the criminal investigators of the Internal Revenue Service and prosecution is being handled by a team of federal prosecutors led by Senior Litigation Counsel Gordon Zubrod and includes Assistant U.S. Attorneys William Houser, Michael Consiglio, Amy Phillips and Criminal Division Chief Christian Fisanick.
