OMAHA MALL SHOOTING |

It is a holiday tragedy: on Wednesday, Robert Hawkins opened fire at an Omaha mall, killing eight people and wounding five more before taking his own life. The Omaha Police Department is leading the investigation, with several agencies providing support, including the Nebraska State Patrol, ATF, and the FBI. Our office in Omaha responded to the scene with special agent bomb technicians, SWAT team agents, and evidence experts. We helped interview more than 100 mall employees and patrons, and our field intelligence analysts also provided analytic support. At this time, we believe there is no nexus to terrorism. Said Omaha Special Agent in Charge John G. Kavanagh: "Yesterday the Omaha community experienced horror and unbelievable sadness at the hands of a disturbed individual. However, this strong, tight-knit community will no doubt pull together to support one another in the true spirit of this holiday season." |
