Winnebago Woman Sentenced for Embezzlement

United States District Court Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Christi Freemont, age 30 of Winnebago, Nebraska, for her conviction of embezzlement from the Winnebago Tribal Court. Freemont was sentenced to five years of probation and was further ordered to perform 50 hours of community service. Freemont was also ordered to pay restitution of $8,529.69.
Freemont is a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and was employed as a clerk with the Winnebago Tribal Court. As part of her duties, Freemont had access to a debit card belonging to the Winnebago Tribal Court. Freemont used this card to make unauthorized cash withdrawals at ATMs and to make unauthorized personal purchases at the Walmart and Hy Vee stores located in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
