Event Triggering this Release:

Serial bank robber Jason D. McCain was sentenced today to 100 months in prison by the Honorable Lyle E. Strom, United States District Court Judge. McCain admitted in a plea agreement to having robbed four Nebraska Banks and a Council Bluffs Credit Union over the course of two years. His last robbery, on Christmas Eve of 2009, was of the Bank of the West located at 4724 South 24th Street in Omaha. McCain entered the bank displaying a gun, wearing a dark parka with a fur-lined hood and demanded money from the teller. He left the bank with over $24,000 in cash. He was observed leaving the bank driving a Red Ford Taurus heading northbound on 24th street. A pursuit by the Omaha Police ensued before McCain was ultimately apprehended near 28th and St. Marys. Police recovered the cash and the gun, which turned out to be a BB gun.

McCain utilized the same method of operation when he engaged in robberies of the Tier One Bank on South 42nd Street on March 1, 2007, and also on December 16, 2008, the Telco Credit Union in Council Bluffs on January 17, 2009, and the First National Bank located on 33rd & “L” Street on December 8, 2009. Judge Strom also ordered that McCain pay restitution in the amount of $71,129 to the banks he robbed and that he serve a three-year term of supervised release after his incarceration.
