Two Sentenced for Attempted Bank Robbery in Bellevue

U.S. Attorney’s Office October 08, 2010
  • District of Nebraska (402) 661-3700

United States Attorney Deborah Gilg and the Federal Bureau of Investigation announce the following information for the attention of the media:

Event Triggering this Release:

On October 8, 2010, Michael D. McCroy, 36, and Shannon B. Jackson, 35, were sentenced for the March 13, 2009, attempted robbery of the First National Bank, 2008 Pratt Avenue, in Bellevue. The Honorable Joseph F. Bataillon sentenced McCroy to 15 years in prison and sentenced Jackson to 10 years in prison. After their release from prison, each will serve a five-year term of supervised release.

Jackson and McCroy entered the bank at 7:00 a.m. by shattering an office window. Two tellers and a security guard had just entered the bank and deactivated the alarm. The bank had yet to open for business. A witness outside the bank observed the break-in and called the police. One robber pulled the guard into an office and demanded the combination to the vault. The guard was hit in the face and tasered. One robber grabbed a teller, held a bb gun to her back, and restrained her at the vault by holding her by her hair. He demanded that she open the vault. Before she could get the vault open, the robbers became aware that police were nearby and ran from the bank.

McCroy ran out the shattered window directly toward a Bellevue Police Officer. McCroy was chased onto, and across, Cornhusker before being apprehended in rush hour traffic. When the Bellevue Police Department retraced McCroy’s path, they recovered a BB gun, tasers and a two-way radio.

Jackson left the bank with McCroy. He crossed Cornhusker and hid in a wooded area. He was discovered by Bellevue Police and Sarpy County Sheriff’s Deputies a short time later.
