Omaha Resident Sentenced to 70 Months Following His Bank Robbery Conviction

United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg and the Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation announce the following information for the attention of the media:

Event Triggering this Release:

The Honorable Warren K. Urbom, Senior United States District Judge in Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 7, 2010, sentenced Marcus Lamar Short to 70 months’ imprisonment following his conviction for bank robbery. On October 6, 2008, Mr. Short, along with two co-defendants, Traves Rush and Curtis Cotton, robbed the Tier One Bank at 5300 South 56th Street in Lincoln, Nebraska. The bank reported the total amount of money stolen was $26,500.42. All but $2,090.47 was recovered when the defendants were arrested, and Short and Cotton have been ordered to pay restitution. All three were apprehended approximately 30 minutes after the robbery approximately 1 and 1/2 miles east of 84th & Highway 6, just east of Lincoln, by officers of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln Police Department, with the assistance of a Nebraska State Patrol helicopter. Mr. Short was indicted by a federal grand jury in October, 2009, pled guilty in April, 2010, and was sentenced on July 7, 2010. Rush was found guilty of the bank robbery on May 2, 2010, and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 29, 2010.
