Macy Woman Sentenced for Assault
U.S. Attorney’s Office November 17, 2009 |
United States Attorney Deborah Gilg and the FBI announce the following information for the attention of the media:
Event Triggering this Release: United States District Court Judge Laurie Smith Camp sentenced Alisa Baxter to a term of incarceration of a year and one day for her conviction on assault with a dangerous weapon. Baxter was further ordered to serve a term of supervised release of three years following her release from imprisonment. In sentencing Baxter, Judge Smith Camp deviated from the sentencing guidelines because the incident started as a mutual combat between Baxter and the victim.
On April 24, 2009, Baxter and the victim, as well as others, were drinking to the point of intoxication. When they returned to the home of one of the participants at 7 a.m., an argument broke out between Baxter and the victim over $17.00 which was claimed to be missing. Baxter became angry and punched the victim. The victim fought back by punching Baxter in the face. Baxter then left the living room and went into an adjoining kitchen and grabbed a butcher knife and threw it at the victim. The knife penetrated the victim’s neck and severed the external carotid artery. The victim needed surgery to repair the damage.
