Omaha Man Sentenced on Copyright Infringement Charges

United States Attorney Joe Stecher, Omaha Police Chief Eric Buske, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, announce the following information for the attention of the media:

Event Triggering this Release: For having Infringed Copyrights on and before May 8, 2008, Michael J. Colvin was sentenced by the Honorable Laurie Smith Camp, United States District Judge, to serve eight months in confinement, which will be followed by a three-year term of supervised release, and to pay a $100 special assessment. He was also ordered to forfeit all infringed copies and all property used to produce the infringed copies.

Colvin’s car was pulled over by police on May 5, 2008, near 36th and Curtis. Found in his car were 3,133 DVD recordings that were illegally created copies of movies copyrighted by the Motion Picture Association of America. Police got a warrant and searched his home, finding a DVD recording tower with multiple recorders and 1,267 additional bootleg DVD recordings of movies copyrighted by the Motion Picture Association of America.
