Arrests Made in Oklahoma Bank Robbery

OKLAHOMA CITY—James E. Finch, Special Agent in Charge of the Oklahoma City Division of the FBI and Chief Bill Citty, Oklahoma City Police Department, announce the arrest of Leon Wayne Murrell, 18 years of age of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Charles Glen Johnson, aka Kilo, 19 years of age of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on charges related to three recent bank robberies in the area of S.E. 44th and Sunnylane in Oklahoma City/Del City.

The involved robberies are the Bank of Oklahoma, 4324 S.E. 44th Street, Oklahoma City robbed on January 18, 2013, at approximately 9:28 a.m. and again on January 24, 2013 at approximately 9:24 a.m.; and the BancFirst, 4200 S. Sunnylane Road, Del City, Oklahoma robbed on February 2, 2013, at approximately 9:30 a.m. In each instance, the banks were robbed by two black males who pointed weapons and yelled for employees and customers to put their hands up.

On the afternoon of February 5, 2013 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Oklahoma City Police Officers responded to a residence in Southeast Oklahoma City after a 911 call was received reporting a possible burglary in progress. Investigation by officers at the scene identified Murrell and Johnson as two of the individuals at the reported address. One of the officers recognized Johnson as the primary suspect in the investigation of the recent bank robberies, and both individuals were detained while Oklahoma City robbery detectives and FBI agents responded to investigate. After further investigation, Oklahoma City Police detectives and FBI agents arrested Murrell and Johnson without incident. Murrell and Johnson were transported to the Oklahoma County Jail and will be facing state Bank Robbery charges.

These robberies were investigated by the FBI, Oklahoma City Police Department, Safe Streets Task Force, and the Del City Police Department. The public is reminded these arrests are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
