63-Year-Old Sentenced for Attempting to Send Obscene Matter to Minor

OKLAHOMA CITY—Charles Allen Whitley, 63, of Hollis, Oklahoma, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Stephen P. Friot to serve 57 months in prison for attempting to send obscene matter to a minor and possessing child pornography, announced Sanford C. Coats, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma.
According to court records, on June 25th and 28th of 2010, Whitley chatted online with whom he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. During the chats, he transmitted two live web-camera videos of himself masturbating to the “girl.” Whitley also possessed child pornography on his computer on June 25, 2010. The “girl” turned out to be an undercover law enforcement officer. Whitley pled guilty on May 2, 2011. Upon release from prison, Whitley will have to register as a sex offender.
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, the flagship program in the Department of Justice’s National Strategy for Child Exploitation Prevention and Interdiction, and was the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Somervell County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Hale.
