Portsmouth Man Sentenced for Bribery

NORFOLK, VA—Bryan W. Fox, 30, of Portsmouth, Virginia, was sentenced today in Norfolk federal court to three years and four months in prison, and ordered to pay $265,963 in restitution, for his conviction of bribery. Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, made the announcement after Fox was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Rebecca Beach Smith. Fox previously pled guilty to the charge on May 4, 2010.

According to court documents, Fox, while on active duty with the United States Navy and while working at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia, was responsible for the inventory and procurement of medical supplies and equipment. From July 2007 through June 2009, Fox accepted approximately $26,000 in cash and other items of value in exchange for awarding $625,000 in purchasing orders to various medical supply vendors.

This case was investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the Naval Audit Service. Assistant United States Attorneys Robert J. Seidel, Jr. and Kevin M. Comstock prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
