Former Nassau County Legislator Roger Corbin Pleads Guilty to Filing False Tax Returns, Tax Evasion, and Making False Statements

Earlier today, at the federal courthouse in Central Islip, New York, defendant Roger Corbin, a former Nassau County Legislator who represented the Second Legislative District from 1995 until December 31, 2009, pleaded guilty to a seven-count superseding indictment charging him with filing false federal tax returns for the years 2005, 2006, and 2007, tax evasion in each of those years, and making false statements to Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service. The guilty plea proceedings were held before United States Magistrate Judge William D. Wall.

The guilty plea was announced by Benton J. Campbell, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York; Joseph M. Demarest, Jr., Assistant Director-in-Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) New York Field Office; and Patricia J. Haynes, Special Agent-in-Charge, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Criminal Investigation, New York.

Corbin faces a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment for each of the three false return charges, a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment for each of the three tax evasion charges, and a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment for the false statements charge.

The government’s case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys John J. Durham, Carrie N. Capwell, and Richard P. Donoghue.
