Today, FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) David Shafer of New York’s Criminal Division, FBI Assistant Legal Attaché (ALAT) from Rome, Steve Moore and Supervisory Special Agent Ernie Verina of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) met with Gilberto Roman Caldarozzi, Director, Central Operations Service of the Italian National Police (INP). Also in attendance were Raffaele Grassi, Vice Director (INP), Antonino De Santis, Section Manager of the Palermo Police Station and Luca Scognamillo, INP liaison from the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC. The representatives from the INP visited the FBI New York Field Office for briefings and discussions. ASAC Shafer provided an overview of the FBI operations in the New York metropolitan area and discussed issues related to current and future collaboration between the FBI and the Italian National Police. ALAT Moore discussed continued cooperation between the law enforcement agencies in both countries.

ASAC Shafer stated, “Meeting with our partners from Italy improves our cooperation between our organizations on a wide variety of issues. Many of our investigations have an international nexus, and the best way to deter such activity is to work closely with our foreign partners. We have a long established relationship with our Italian partners and the people of Italy and we will continue to work together to fight global crime.”

ALAT Moore said, “We have an excellent relationship with the INP in Italy and this is a great opportunity to bring the important officials to the FBI office in New York to discuss our mutual issues. We partner every day on all types of criminal and national security matters and these visits help fortify our important relationship.”

Director Caldarozzi added, “We have worked with the FBI for many years and it was a great day renewing our friendships at the FBI in New York today. I look forward to continued cooperation following these meetings and the important discussions of the day.”
