More than 200 FBI agents and specialists were among the thousands who converged on Tampa for Super Bowl XLIII and the many events that led up to the annual football extravaganza.

The FBI joined other law enforcement agencies to support the Tampa Police Department and Tampa Fire Rescue, which were responsible for overall security and emergency management. The FBI’s role was to gather, analyze, and share intelligence related to potential terrorist threats. FBI personnel on location included agents and professionals from our Tampa field office, as well as intelligence analysts, bomb technicians, hazardous materials experts, police, SWAT, and evidence response teams from around the country.

“The interagency cooperation and camaraderie demonstrated during this event reached a prodigious level, said Tampa FBI Special Agent in Charge Steven Ibison. “All of the hard work and planning came together—everything went according to our game plan!”

More than 20 local, state, and federal agencies were involved in securing the event, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Customs and Border Protection; Immigration and Customs Enforcement; and the Coast Guard.
