Valerie Parlave Named Assistant Director in Charge of Washington Field Office

Director Robert S. Mueller, III has named Valerie Parlave assistant director in charge of the Washington Field Office. Ms. Parlave most recently served as a deputy assistant director in the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Parlave began her career as a special agent with the FBI in 1991. She first reported to the Las Vegas Division, where she conducted violent crime and fugitive investigations until February 1993, when she was assigned to the division’s violent gang and drug squad. In that role, she coordinated two violent gang and drug task forces, led task force investigations, supervised undercover buys, executed felony warrants, conducted wiretap investigations, and acted as an undercover agent.

In August 2000, she was promoted to supervisory special agent in the Criminal Investigative Division to develop operational policies and strategic planning. Ms. Parlave was named an assistant inspector in the Office of Inspections in July 2002 and analyzed division and field office performance. When she transferred to the Miami Division in December 2003, she supervised a violent gang squad and was promoted to assistant special agent in charge in September 2006.

In July 2008, Ms. Parlave was named section chief of the Employee Development and Selection Program in the Human Resources Division. While there, she managed employee and leadership development and the promotion process for special agents, intelligence analysts, and the Senior Executive Service. Ms. Parlave was assigned acting special agent in charge of the Washington Field Office Criminal Division in March 2010, until she was appointed special agent in charge of the Little Rock Division in June.

Ms. Parlave was promoted in February 2012 to deputy assistant director in the Criminal Investigative Division and was responsible for leading the violent crime, criminal enterprise, special operations, and southwest border programs.
