Press Response to the Bellows Report
Washington, D.C. August 13, 2001 |
When the FBI received a draft copy of the Bellows report, a detailed review of its many recommendations was conducted, with the participation of working groups formed by the Attorney General.
From this process, the FBI identified specific areas in the counterintelligence program for improvement, and, with the concurrence of the former and current Attorneys General, have implemented those improvements.
The FBI welcomed these constructive recommendations and actively pursued corrective action to improve and enhance its counterintelligence program. These actions, along with initiatives associated with Counterintelligence in the 21st Century, or CI-21, have had the combined effect of strengthening the FBI's ability to protect national security.
