Kevin Fryslie Named SAC Anchorage

Kevin Fryslie has been named Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the FBI’s Anchorage Field Office. Director Robert S. Mueller, III, appointed him to this position to replace SAC Toni M. Fogle, who is who is retiring after 22 years in the Bureau and will be accepting a position at Columbus State University in Georgia. Most recently, Mr. Fryslie served as special assistant to the Executive Assistant Director for the Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch at FBI Headquarters.

Mr. Fryslie entered on duty as a special agent of the FBI in March 1983. Upon completion of training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, he was assigned to the San Francisco Field Office, where he worked primarily bank robbery investigations. In December 1983, Mr. Fryslie transferred to the Albuquerque Field Office where he specialized in drug and white collar crime investigations. Mr. Fryslie reported to the Washington Field Office in March 1985. While there, he investigated foreign counterintelligence and public corruption matters, including the Jonathan Jay Pollard espionage investigation and the Iran-Contra investigation.

Mr. Fryslie became a supervisory special agent in September 1988 and worked in the Inspection Division’s Program Evaluation Unit at FBI Headquarters. He served as a supervisor in the Anchorage Field Office from September 1991 to August 1995, where he managed all investigative programs. In August 1995, he transferred to the Finance Division at FBI Headquarters as chief of the Budget Formulation and Presentation Unit, with responsibility for the development of the FBI’s then $3 billion annual budget.

Mr. Fryslie reported to the Ogden Resident Agency of the Salt Lake City Field Office in May 1998 to supervise Utah’s five resident agencies. In August 2001, he established a Cyber Crime Squad and Cyber Crime Task Force in Salt Lake City. During his tenure there he also supervised the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping investigation. In April 2003, Mr. Fryslie became an Assistant Special Agent in Charge in the Salt Lake City Field Office, which has responsibility for FBI operations in Idaho, Montana, and Utah. Mr. Fryslie was the FBI’s on-scene commander in Afghanistan from September 2005 through January 2006.

In March 2006, Mr. Fryslie became a member of the federal government’s Senior Executive Service and served as special assistant to the FBI’s Executive Assistant Director for Administration. In June 2006, he became special assistant to the FBI’s Executive Assistant Director for Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch.

Born in San Francisco, California, and raised in San Jose, Mr. Fryslie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration (Law Enforcement) and a Master of Public Administration degree from San Jose State University. He began his professional career as a police officer with the San Jose Police Department from January 1977 to March 1983. Mr. Fryslie worked as a patrol officer, field training officer, and street crimes officer. Mr. Fryslie and his wife, Gay, were married in 1982 and have three adult children.
