  1. New York/Norfolk: Somali Hostage Negotiator in Piracies Sentenced to Life

    Mohammad Saaili Shibin, aka “Khalif Ahmed Shibin,” the man convicted as the person in Somalia responsible for negotiating the ransom of an American yacht and a German-owned vessel, was sentenced to 10 concurrent life sentences for piracy as well as additional life sentences for other charges.   2. Newark: Former Teacher Sentenced for Distributing Images of Child Sexual Abuse

    Brian Stern, a former seventh-grade science teacher and swim coach, was sentenced to eight years in prison for making available images and videos of pre-pubescent children being sexually abused—sometimes violently—to others over the Internet. Full Story

  3. Pittsburgh: Three Charged with Making Threats Against the University of Pittsburgh

    A resident of Dublin, Ireland, was charged with a series of crimes related to e-mailed threats targeting the University of Pittsburgh, three federal courthouses, and a federal officer. Two Ohio men were also charged for additional online threats against the university. Full Story

    The, most with ties to the Outlaw Motorcycle Club in Georgia and its affiliated clubs, have been charged with federal drug and gun offenses arising from an undercover investigation. Full Story

  5. Portland: Indictment Charges Couple with RICO and Other Capital Crimes in Furtherance with White Supremacist Movement

    David Joseph “Joey” Pedersen and Holly Ann Grigsby were indicted Thursday for racketeering activity in violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, RICO conspiracy, using a firearm in a crime of violence that caused death, kidnapping resulting in death, carjacking resulting in death, among other offenses.   6. San Juan: Thirteen Individuals Indicted for Drug Trafficking

    A federal grand jury indicted 13 individuals with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, use of firearms in furtherance of crimes of violence, possession of machine guns, and other related offenses. Full Story

  7. Omaha: Woman Sentenced to 240 Months’ Imprisonment for Child Exploitation Offenses

    Amanda Diener was sentenced to 240 months in prison for performing online sex acts on a child. Full Story

  8. Detroit: Executive Pleads Guilty to Price Fixing on Automobile Parts Installed in U.S. Cars

    Toshio Sudo, a Japanese national and executive of Tokyo-based Yazaki Corp., has agreed to plead guilty for his role in a conspiracy to fix prices of instrument panel clusters, also known as meters. Full Story

  9. Los Angeles: Couple Arrested for Accessing Confidential Information to Tip Off Defendants

    Federal district court clerk’s office employee Nune Gevorkyan and her husband, Oganes Koshkaryan, were arrested Tuesday on charges that they accessed confidential information contained in sealed court documents to warn defendants before planned arrests by law enforcement personnel. Full Story

  10. Kansas City: Islamic Center of Joplin Fire Cause Remains Undetermined

    The FBI, the ATF, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and the Missouri Division of Fire Safety’s Office of the State Fire Marshal have completed the on-scene investigation into the cause of a fire at the Islamic Center of Joplin. Full Story
