Mollie Halpern: The FBI celebrates the success of its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives program on the 65th anniversary month of its creation.

Of the 504 fugitives that have appeared on the list, 473 have been apprehended or located—with 156 of those found because of citizen cooperation. Unit Chief John Kitzinger says the FBI also depends on our partnerships with law enforcement across the globe.

John Kitzinger: It’s now more important than ever to have that strong relationship, because we rely on them to help investigate the leads that we receive from the public—and we’ll pursue those leads anywhere in the world.

John Fox: We’ve had captures of folks in this country, we’ve had captures of people who have fled overseas. It has been not only a national success but an international one.

Halpern: That was historian John Fox, who reminds us of some notorious Top Ten fugitives such as serial killer Ted Bundy and gangster Whitey Bulger. Another infamous fugitive is James Earl Ray, who assassinated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Fox: He is one of those few who got on there twice.

Halpern: A minimum reward of up to $100,000 is offered for information leading directly to the arrest of a Most Wanted fugitive. To see the current list, visit www.fbi.gov. With Wanted by the FBI, I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau.
