Mollie Halpern: While parts of the country are sweltering and being asked to conserve electricity and water in this summer’s first heat wave, the FBI continues to ensure its cooling systems across the country are energy efficient all year round.

Elizabeth Koprowski: The FBI has a lot of facilities and employees, and along with this comes a lot of energy use—for example, the energy we use to air condition our buildings—and we want to insure that we’re taking steps to reduce our environmental footprint.

Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern, and this is FBI, This Week. The Bureau saves energy in many ways, from the use of its energy efficient mechanical equipment to employees powering down computer monitors when not in use. Elizabeth Koprowski is the FBI’s sustainability program manager.

Koprowski: The monitors use energy even when they have the screen saver on, so that’s something simple that every employee can do that will help reduce our energy consumption, as well as saving taxpayer money—especially in this fiscal climate.
