Mollie Halpern: The FBI honors our law enforcement colleagues as we observe National Police Week, May 15 through the 21. Nearly 19,000 officers have been killed in the line of duty in the U.S. since 1791.

Jeff Blanton: It is truly is a fraternity, it’s a brotherhood in law enforcement.

Mollie Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau and this is “FBI, This Week.” The FBI stands united with law enforcement as we work together to protect America. Supervisory Special Agent Jeff Blanton of the FBI’s Office of Law Enforcement Coordination.

Blanton: The Director has made it a priority to ensure that the FBI continues to establish strong working relationships with all of our partners—federal, state, local, and tribal.

Halpern: The Bureau also pauses to remember the 55 special agents who have been killed in the line of duty since the Bureau was formed. They are men and women who lived out the meaning of fidelity, bravery, and integrity. The sacrifices of these fallen heroes serve as a reminder that freedom and safety comes at a great cost.
