Mollie Halpern: The FBI and its law enforcement partners combat worldwide misuse and waste of United States taxpayer money. Members of the International Contract Corruption Task Force, or ICCTF, investigate corrupt government contractors and those who hire them.

Doug Cook: The large majority of the fraud schemes that our task force identifies are U.S. contracting officials receiving bribes and kickbacks to steer work toward shady contractors.

Halpern: That was Supervisory Special Agent Doug Cook, who says while the majority of contractors are legitimate, others are motivated by greed. These criminals defraud the U.S. government and can interfere with Americans who serve and sacrifice in tough working environments overseas.

Cook: Americans taking advantage of, essentially, the U.S. taxpayer in this regard is particularly egregious.

Halpern: The ICCTF was established in 2006 to target contract corruption in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. Today the ICCTF’s reach is even further.

Cook: We have agents—and our partners have agents—deployed in Central America, in Africa, in the Middle East, in Europe, and also in Asia.
