Ms. Ballew: Pedophiles on the Internet trying to lure children as young as 10 years old into online activity.

Mr. McMillion: “Typically we see where an individual, or bad guy offender, would try to approach that child online in a chat room or some other Internet venue.”

 

Ms. Ballew: Unit Chief Scott McMillion, with FBI’s Innocent Images National Initiative, says the FBI also investigates situations involving illegal photographic images of minors on the Internet.

Mr. McMillion: “Unfortunately in the United States, it is a major significant criminal problem. It is a problem we that have in our communities, and in neighborhoods around the world.”

Ms. Ballew: Combating this is a collaborative mission with universities, non-profit organizations…

Mr. McMillion: “State and local partners, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces around the country, as well as international partners and international law enforcement agencies.”

Ms. Ballew: The FBI’s Safe Online Surfing program can also help.

Mr. McMillion: “It’s a challenge that students in various school districts around the country are able to participate in, to basically become more aware and knowledgeable about what keeps kids safe.”
