Ms. Ballew: Foreign intelligence threats…

Mr. Levett: “Threats to both the intellectual property and to the innovation, really the economic well-being of the United States.”

Ms. Ballew: Mark Levett, chief of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division’s Strategic Partnership Unit, says if other countries can steal America’s technology instead of developing their own…

Mr. Levett: “It gives them a huge economic advantage over the United States and therefore erodes both our economic and our national security.”

Ms. Ballew: One type of threat is a human source inside a company…

Mr. Levett: “A foreign intelligence service will recruit an insider who will take those secrets and then either for money, ideology, coercion, or ego, will take that technology and give it to a foreign adversary or foreign competitor.”

Ms. Ballew: The FBI provides practical advice to academic and business communities.

Mr. Levett: “How to counter foreign intelligence activity through identifying both the insider through cyber means, and also through good operational security and informational security practices.”

Ms. Ballew: I’m Denise Ballew of the Bureau and that’s what’s happening at the “FBI, This Week.”
