Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern of the FBI, and this is Gotcha, the Bureau’s closed case of the week. Kevin Harpham attempted to use the WMD at the Martin Luther King Unity March in Spokane earlier this year. About 2,000 people were in attendance. Supervisory Special Agent Frank Harrill says the device was deadly…
Harrill: He was indiscriminately willing to wreak havoc among a crowd of innocents.
Halpern: Members of the public first noticed the device, which prompted local police to re-route the march.
Harrill: It was team work.
Halpern: The FBI used multiple investigative techniques to identify Harpham and connect him to the crime.
Harrill: I really can’t think of a tool that the FBI can bring to bear that wasn’t applied in this case. Those were the ingredients for success in this case.
Halpern: Harpham will serve the rest of his life under court supervision once he is released from prison.
