Businessman Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Bribery Involving a Public Official

NEW ORLEANS—RAY ANTHONY DAVEZAC, age 55, a resident of Destrehan, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court today before United States District Judge Carl J. Barbier to a bill of information charging conspiracy to commit bribery involving a public official, announced United States Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the factual basis, DAVEZAC owned and operated Davezac Consulting Engineers, LLC of Destrehan, Louisiana which contracted to do work for St. John the Baptist Parish. On May 5, 2009, then-President of St. John the Baptist Parish, William Hubbard, solicited a bribe from DAVEZAC. As a result of the solicitation, DAVEZAC paid $5,000 to a local automobile dealership for the benefit of Hubbard. DAVEZAC’s company then received a contract from St. John Parish.
DAVEZAC faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000, and up to three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing is set for July 15, 2010.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys James R. Mann and Brian Klebba.
