New Orleans Man Sentenced to Over Four Years for Bank Robbery

NEW ORLEANS, LA—MICHAEL NELSON, a/k/a Micheal Nelson, Michall Nelson, and Red Nelson, age 45 and a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to over four years (55 months) of incarceration for committing bank robbery, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.

In addition to incarceration, NELSON was sentenced to three (3) years of supervised release following imprisonment during which time he will be under federal supervision and risks additional imprisonment should he violate any terms of the supervision. According to court documents, NELSON previously admitted that on Thursday, April 9, 2009, he robbed the Whitney Bank located on Belle Terre Boulevard in LaPlace, Louisiana.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
