Massachusetts Man Charged with Robbing Mystic Bank

David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that a federal grand jury sitting in New Haven has returned an indictment charging THOMAS WOODWARD, 37, last residing in Fall River, Mass., with one count of bank robbery. The indictment was returned yesterday, September 20.
The indictment alleges that, on July 24, 2010, WOODWARD robbed a Citizens Bank branch, located at 23 Broadway in Mystic, of approximately $4,267.
If convicted, WOODWARD faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000.
WOODWARD has been detained since August 20, 2010, after his arrest on unrelated charges by the Massachusetts State Police.
U.S. Attorney Fein stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Stonington Police Department, with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
