Stamford Men Charged with Bank Robbery Spree in Fairfield County

Nora R. Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that a federal grand jury sitting in Bridgeport has returned an indictment charging SPERO MOSCHOS, 29, and CHRISTOPHER DAVIS, 34, both of Stamford, with multiple counts of bank robbery relating to 12 robberies and attempted robberies that occurred in Fairfield County in 2009. MOSCHOS is charged in all 12 counts of the indictment and DAVIS is charged in eight counts. The indictment was returned yesterday, May 6.

The indictment alleges that between May 2009 and August 2009, MOSCHOS and DAVIS stole a total of approximately $40,000 from 11 banks in Norwalk, Westport, Stamford, Darien, Wilton, and Fairfield. A Westport bank was victimized twice during the spree.

If convicted, the defendants face a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years on each count.

MOSCHOS and DAVIS have been incarcerated since August 26, 2009, after they were arrested by the Stamford Police Department.

U.S. Attorney Dannehy stated that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendants are entitled to a trial at which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

This matter is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, Darien, Fairfield, and Wilton Police Departments. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul Murphy.
