Montville Man Charged with Robbing Four Connecticut Banks

Nora R. Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that a federal grand jury sitting in New Haven returned an indictment today charging ANTHONY HALL, 49, of Montville, with three counts of armed bank robbery and one count of bank robbery.

The indictment alleges that HALL robbed a Putnam Bank branch in Ledyard on January 30, 2008, a Webster Bank branch in Waterford on June 11, 2009, a New Alliance Bank branch in East Haven on June 24, 2009, and a Hudson Valley Bank branch in Westport on July 10, 2009.

If convicted, HALL faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 25 years and a fine of up to $250,000 on each armed robbery count, and a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine up to $250,000 on the bank robbery count.

HALL has been detained in state custody since his arrest by the United States Marshals Service on August 14, 2009, in Brooklyn, New York.

U.S. Attorney Dannehy stressed that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the Government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case has been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Connecticut State Police, and the Waterford, East Haven and Westport Police Departments. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
