Stamford Man Admits Robbing Darien Bank

U.S. Attorney’s Office June 02, 2009
  • District of Connecticut (203) 821-3700

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DAVID A. MAKSIMIK, 59, of Stamford, waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven to one count of bank robbery.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on January 29, 2009, MAKSIMIK robbed approximately $3,745 from the People’s United Bank, located at 25 Old Kings Highway North in Darien. MAKSIMIK entered the bank with a black power pistol and fake grenade strapped to his chest and approached the teller, handing her a note demanding all the high-denomination bills contained in her drawer. Upon returning to his apartment after the robbery, MAKSIMIK found that his roommate had died, and proceeded to call the police. When the police arrived, they arrested MAKSIMIK after they found evidence that connected him to the bank robbery.

Judge Arterton has scheduled sentencing for August 21, 2009 at which time MAKSIMIK faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Darien Police Department and the Stamford Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Senior Litigation Counsel Richard J. Schechter, with the assistance of law student intern John Duguay.
