Ventnor City Man Admits Robbing Two Banks in Two Weeks

CAMDEN, NJ—A Ventnor City, N.J., man today admitted to robbing Ocean City Home Bank in Margate, N.J., on July 23, 2010, and The Bank in Absecon, N.J., on August 5, 2010, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
William F. Plyler, III., 33, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Joseph E. Irenas in Camden federal court to an information charging him with two counts of bank robbery.
According documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
Plyler walked into each bank, approached the teller counter, and pointed his finger at a teller as he demanded money. The tellers at each bank gave Plyler the money from their top drawers before he fled on foot.
The bank robbery counts to which Plyler pleaded guilty each carry a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing before Judge Irenas is currently scheduled for June 8, 2012.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward in Newark; the New Jersey State Police; Margate City Police Department; and the Absecon Police Department for the investigation leading to today’s guilty plea.
