Bank Robber’s Luck Runs Out: Arrested at Atlantic City Casino

NEWARK, NJ—FBI agents of the New Jersey and Philadelphia Divisions, assisted by New Jersey State troopers from the Division of Gaming Enforcement, nabbed Anthony Boyd, age 39, of Jamaica, Queens, New York last night at the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, announced Special Agent In Charge Weysan Dun. Boyd is wanted in connection with seventeen bank robberies in the New York and Philadelphia areas.

Boyd’s last suspected bank job occurred on March 24, 2009 at Metropolitan National Bank on 46th Street in Manhattan, New York. That night, he checked into the Borgata where he proceeded to press his luck even further. FBI agents and New Jersey State Police had Boyd under surveillance when they spotted him coming out of an elevator. Boyd is also suspected of robbing another Metropolitan National Bank on 40th Street in Manhattan on March 11, 2009. In the Philadelphia area, Boyd allegedly preferred different branches of Citizens Bank: one located on 1701 JFK Boulevard on February 26, 2009 and another at 2001 Market Street on March 14, 2009.

Boyd was arrested on a fugitive warrant from the United States Marshals Service. Boyd escaped from a halfway house in December and apparently returned to his life of crime.

Boyd is scheduled for an initial appearance sometime today before Honorable Ann Marie Donio, U.S. Magistrate Judge. In addition to escape, Boyd will be charged with 17 counts of bank robbery, each count with a potential maximum 20 year sentence. “I guess you could say Mr. Boyd rolled the dice and lost,” quipped Weysan Dun. “The odds are always in favor of the house, and in this case, the house is the justice system.”

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Special Agent in Charge Weysan Dun commends the New Jersey State Police Division of Gaming Enforcement, as well as FBI agents from the Atlantic City Resident Agency and Philadelphia Division for the apprehension of Anthony Boyd. Any media inquiries concerning additional details of the bank robberies in Philadelphia and New York should contact the FBI offices in those jurisdictions.
