Thomas George Tansey, Jr., 33, of Theodore, pled guilty today in federal court to attempted enticement of a 15-year-old and attempted transmission of obscene matter to a minor, announced United States Attorney Kenyen R. Brown.

According to the facts presented by Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Bearden, on August 20, 2010, Tansey initiated a Yahoo! chat room conversation with an undercover FBI agent. The agent was posing as a 15-year-old female from Fairhope, Alabama. From August 20, 2010, to December 2, 2010, Tansey conducted 28 sexually explicit conversations with what he believed to be a 15-year-old minor female. The conversations culminated when Tansey arranged a meeting and was arrested at Bel Air Mall in Mobile, Alabama. Tansey’s sentencing is set for June 24, 2010, before United States District Judge Kristi Dubose.

The investigation was performed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Foley Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Bearden prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
