Devils Lake Man Pleads Guilty to Abusive Sexual Contact at Spirit Lake

FARGO—U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on November 19, 2013, Erick McKay of Devils Lake, North Dakota, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Ralph R. Erickson to two counts of abusive sexual contact.

McKay pleaded guilty to causing a female child, who had not attained 12 years of age, to have sexual contact with him by the use of threat and force against her.

The incidents occurred between April 2011 and June 2012 on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.

Each charge carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Sentencing for McKay has been set for February 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. Assistant U.S. Attorney Janice M. Morley is prosecuting the case.
