U.S. Attorney’s Office November 29, 2012
  • District of South Dakota (605) 330-4400

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Ty Middletent, age 21, of Lower Brule, appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on November 21, 2012, and pled guilty to the indictment that charged him with sexual abuse of a minor. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 15 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.

The conviction stems from an incident in August 2012 when the defendant knowingly engaged in sexual intercourse with a minor.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for February 11, 2013. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing.
