Oelrichs Man Pleads Guilty to Felon in Possession of a Firearm

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Earl D. Dowty, age 45, of Oelrichs, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on May 18, 2011. Dowty pled guilty to felon in possession of a firearm. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both; three years of supervised release; and a special assessment of $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for August 15, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals pending sentencing.
