Mobridge Man Pleads Guilty to Distribution of a Controlled Substance

PIERRE, SD—United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Winfield Eagleman, age 48, of Mobridge appeared before United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann on March 28, 2011. Eagleman pled guilty to distribution of a controlled substance. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 20 years' imprisonment, a $1,000,000 fine, or both; three years of supervised release; and a special assessment of $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.

The investigation was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Ted L. McBride.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for July 11, 2011. Eagleman was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
