Oglala Man Arraigned on Assault Charges

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

Tristan Yellow Horse, age 25, of Oglala, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 15, 2011, for assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge William Gerdes on February 18, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years of imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The charges are merely accusations, and Yellow Horse is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins is prosecuting the case. Yellow Horse was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
