McLaughlin Man Gets Two Life Sentences Plus 36 Months

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a McLaughlin man, Frederick One Feather, a/k/a Snow One Feather, age 62, was convicted on February 9, 2011, of two counts of sexual abuse of a minor by fear and one count of abusive sexual contact as a result of a federal jury trial in Aberdeen, South Dakota. On May 16, 2011, One Feather, who has a past federal conviction for rape and felon in possession of a firearm, was sentenced by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann to two life sentences to be served concurrently plus 36 months on the sexual contact charge and a $300 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

One Feather was indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2010. The charges stem from events that took place between September 2008 and October 2009 near McLaughlin when One Feather knowingly engaged in sexual acts with a minor female.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.

One Feather was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshals Service to begin serving his two life sentences.
