Iowa Man Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Jeremy Bullock, age 32, of Inwood, Iowa, appeared before Chief U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on May 10, 2011, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with bank robbery. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 25 years of imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

On January 4, 2011, Jeremy Bullock entered the building used by First Midwest Bank at Centerville, South Dakota. Bullock entered the bank wearing a heavy coat, gloves, and sunglasses. He walked up to the bank teller brandishing an object that appeared to be a handgun and demanded that the teller put money in a bag that he gave to her. After the teller placed money in the bag, Bullock grabbed the bag and left the bank building.

"I'm pleased that we can bring justice to the people of Centerville and the employees of First Midwest Bank," said U.S. Attorney Johnson. "I would also like to extend my appreciation to the local and federal law enforcement officers who participated in the apprehension and subsequent conviction of Mr. Bullock."

The investigation was conducted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the Centerville Police Department, the Turner County Sheriff's Office, and the FBI. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and sentencing is scheduled for August 1. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
