Eagle Butte Woman Pleads Guilty to Distribution of Controlled Substance to Person Under 21

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Sammy Houston, age 27, of Eagle Butte, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on December 6, 2010, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged her with distribution of a controlled substance to a person under the age of 21. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in custody, a $1,000,000 fine, or both; six years of supervised release; and a $100 special assessment. The charge relates to Houston's distribution of morphine in May 2010, to a person under 21 years of age.

The investigation was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Ted L. McBride.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for February 28, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
