U.S. Attorney’s Office October 06, 2010 |
A 30-year-old Brooklyn Center man was indicted earlier today in federal court in St. Paul for allegedly possessing a 40-caliber pistol. Tavon Tarrell Timberlake was charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Because he is a convicted felon, Timberlake is prohibited from possessing firearms at any time. His past felony convictions include a number of offenses in Hennepin County: fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance in 2000, third-degree possession of a controlled substance in 2000, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm in 2005. In 2005, he also was convicted in Ramsey County on that same charge, as was he in 2009 in Anoka County.
If convicted on the federal charge now filed against him, Timberlake faces a potential maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. All sentences will be determined by a federal district court judge.
This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Safe Streets Task Force. Safe Streets is an FBI-sponsored task force that focuses on combating violent street crime as well as gang and drug trafficking offenses. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carol M. Kayser.
