Minnesota Hands & Voices, Minneapolis Police Department, Minneapolis FBI, and the Department of Human Services/Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services Metro Office are hosting an educational safety fair geared toward kindergarten through transition-aged students who are deaf/hard of hearing, along with their teachers, interpreters, transliterators, and para-professionals.

This event will be held at the Minneapolis Police Special Operations Center located at 4119 Dupont Avenue North in Minneapolis. The keynote presentations will feature “Bullying Prevention” for the Kindergarten—5th grade students presented by Julie Hertzog, Director of PACER’s Bullying Prevention Project.  The older students will learn about Internet Safety presented by Karina Berzins of the Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force - MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. In addition to the presentations, the students will experience a variety of Law Enforcement educational activities, such as fingerprint dusting, search dog demonstration, robotic bomb detection device demonstration, fire escape house, and interaction with the horses from the mounted police patrol. For these sessions, ASL interpreting, cued speech transliterating, captioning, and assistive devices will be provided.

The event runs from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and over 300 deaf/hard of hearing students are expected to attend this year.
